"Named Arkansaw Creek; Death Oregon Pioneer Used to Live in Cowlitz County"

   Hudson, Or., Oct. 27.---The remains of Samuel K. Hudson, an Oregon pioneer
and Indian war veteran, who died October 20 at his home in Beaver valley of
acute indigestion have been laid to rest in the family lot in Woodbine cemetery,
at Hudson, Or.
   Mr. Hudson was born January 16, 1820, in Alabama.  He went from Alabama to
Arkansas while a young man, where he married Miss Nancy Murdock in 1848.  They
crossed the plains by ox-team to Oregon in 1852.  He took up a donation claim in
Cowlitz county, Washington, on Arkansaw creek, which he named for his home
state.
   In 1868 he moved to Columbia county, Oregon, where he had since resided, a
respected and prominent citizen.  He lived and was known far and wide for his
hospitality and generosity.
