A. S. PETERSON

Of a mechanical turn of mind, A. S. Peterson has wisely developed this
talent and is now a leading factor in automobile circles of Eugene. He was born
near Albert Lea, Minnesota, and is a son of C. F. and Mary F. (Jorgensen)
Peterson, both of whom died on a ranch near Bellingham, Washington, the father
having attained the venerable age of eighty-eight years.
    A. S. Peterson attended the public schools of Albert Lea and afterward
entered the hardware business, becoming a member of the firm of Peterson
Brothers, with which he was connected for six years. In 1910 he disposed of his
interests in Minnesota and came to Oregon, locating in Eugene. He was in the
employ of the Frank Berger Hardware Company for a year and then purchased land
near Coburg, Oregon. He engaged in ranching in that locality for two years and
on the expiration of that period returned to Eugene. For two years he worked for
Ralph Pierce, acquiring his first experience as an automobile mechanic, and then
accepted a position in the sales department of the Union Oil Company. He
remained with the corporation for a few years and in 1920 opened a repair shop
in Eugene, called the Eugene Garage and situated on Fifth avenue, west. He
prospered in the venture and increased the scope of his activities by selling
used cars and automobile accessories. In 1923 he secured the agency for the
Oakland cars and on December 1, 1925, former a partnership with H. W. Bryden,
with whom he has since been associated under the firm style of the Eugene Motor
Company. They have a large garage at No. 105 Fifth avenue, west, and moved to
this location in December, 1926. They operate a completely equipped service
station and are local agents for the Oakland and Pontiac cars. The members of
the firm are enterprising business men of proven ability and integrity and have
established a large clientele.
In 1905 Mr. Peterson married Miss Alvina E. Peterson, a native of Minnesota
and a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Peterson, both of whom are deceased. Mr.
and Mrs. A. S. Peterson have become the parents of a daughter, Althea, who was
born in Eugene. Mr. Peterson subordinates all other interests to the demands of
his business and his connection with social or fraternal organizations is
limited to membership in the Woodmen of the World. Regular in habit and
methodical in action, he has "made good" and his fellow citizens speak of him in
terms of high regard.
