L. BETTMAN

     Born in Bavaria in 1850, and came to the Pacific Coast in 1868, living for
two years in California previous to his arrival in Oregon in 1870. He served as
clerk in Eugene City until 1874 when he opened a store in Buena Vista, Polk
County. Moved to Dallas in 1880; formed partnership with Mr. Rosenblatt, the
firm doing business in Dallas.
